Meet the Student Assistants!

Along with the peer advisors, the Global Education Office (GEO) has three assistants rounding out our student team.

Let’s meet them:

Olivia Burke, Marketing & Design Assistant

On GEO’s communications and marketing team, Olivia Burke serves as the Marketing and Design Assistant. You’ll often find her immersed in the Adobe Creative Suite designing graphics and flyers for the office.

Olivia is an Industrial Design major with an interest in sustainable business and product design. Last spring, she participated in a semester-long exchange at TU Delft in the Netherlands. While there, she took courses on drawing, videography, entrepreneurship and sustainability, which sparked a range of new interests for Olivia. During her exchange, she also had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe. Some of Olivia’s favorite memories are riding her bike all over the Netherlands in her spare time. In Olivia’s free time she enjoys reading, listening to music, and hiking.

Rebecca Poutasse, Communications Assistant

Also on the communications and marketing team is Rebecca Poutasse, the Communications Assistant. You can find Rebecca working behind the scenes on GEO’s social media and student listeserv platforms. She also assists with writing news/feature stories that highlight students’ international experiences.

Rebecca is a senior Multimedia Journalism major with minors in Professional & Technical Writing and Leadership & Social Change. She spent her Fall 2017 semester studying abroad with the Linking Lives: Creating Sustainable Social Change study abroad program in Lugano, Switzerland. Being centrally located, she had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe each weekend.

Courses on nonprofit (social) marketing and strategic implementation of sustainable, community-driven development in developing countries, prepared Rebecca for a month spent in Rwanda during the second part of the program. There she worked alongside two nonprofits conducting research, participating in various community development projects and teaching students English and basic coding skills.

Rebecca is primarily interested in writing and education and hopes to combine these passions working in the non-profit field.

Mateo Carrasco, Office Support Assistant

As the Office Support Assistant, Mateo Carrasco helps maintain the GEO website and assists his colleagues with anything they may need.

Mateo Carrasco is a senior majoring in Political Science with a National Security concentration. He has travelled to 16 countries and has lived in Bolivia and Singapore, before finally settling in Northern Virginia. Mateo was recognized by the Mayor of Liendo, Spain for volunteer work at a hostel for those on the Camino de Santiago. This past summer, Mateo interned at the Bolivian Embassy in Paris, France. He enjoys spending time at McComas Gym, boxing, and listening to Peaches & Herb.

We couldn’t do what we do without help from a talented group of students!
