Catching Up with Fulbright Winner, Adam Wise

Adam Wise, mechanical engineering alumnus, received a Fulbright research grant last spring to conduct research at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. His research focuses on wake meandering of floating wind turbines. Through his research, Adam hopes to characterize how wakes, essentially turbulent airflow, adversely affect the floating wind turbines.

Fulbright Advisor Betty Anderson got the chance to catch up with Adam about his experience thus far.

Adam arrived in Norway on August 12, and was given a warm welcome from the Norwegian Fulbright commission.

“They’re super helpful,” Adam said. “We had our Fulbright orientation in Oslo a couple weeks ago, which was a great experience. I had a chance to meet the other Fulbrighters in the country and there's quite a few of them.”

Adam got the chance to introduce himself during a reception at the Norwegian Nobel Institute, where Norwegian and American dignitaries were in attendance (left).

While he’s looking forward to the months ahead, Adam is also preparing for the brutal Norwegian winter. “The day after I arrived, I had a meeting at 9:00 a.m., and it was 40 degrees in the morning,” he said. “I definitely feel a little nervous for the winter, but hopefully it won't be too bad. I'm trying to absorb as much sunlight as I can before it all disappears.”

We wish Adam continued success in Norway and fingers crossed for a warm winter!
