Alex worked at the Global Education Office in 2012-2013 as a Peer Advisor. During her undergraduate career, she studied abroad twice: once on the Pamplin “Doing Business in Europe” summer program in Dijon, France and Munster, Germany and then for a semester in Seville, Spain with International Studies Abroad (ISA). “My study abroad experiences taught me that the further you travel outside of your comfort zone (physically and mentally), the more you learn about yourself,” Alex said. It also showed her how easy it was to pack up and go.
After graduating from Virginia Tech, Alex worked as a business advisory services associate in Mclean, VA. After about a year of work, Alex took advantage of the “pack up and go” attitude from her study abroad and left her position to travel through Southeast Asia. At the end of her three-month journey, she planted herself in Melbourne, Australia where she lived for a year and worked as a travel and events coordinator. “Staying in Melbourne was the best decision I’ve ever made,” she said. Alex now works as a university recruiter for a professional services firm in New York City.
Her favorite part about working at GEO was the people. She’s still in touch with her fellow peer advisors to this day!
