The Fulbright Program provides funding for students, scholars, teachers, and professionals to undertake graduate study, advanced research, and teaching. We are excited to feature one of our Fulbright at Virginia Tech scholars, Diana Abu-Ghunmi, as she gives us some insight into her experiences.
Diana participated in Fulbright Visiting Scholar Enrichment Seminar “Lone Star, Constituencies: Studying U.S. Elections and Political Processes and the Challenge of Diversity”, which took place during December 2 - 5, 2015 in Austin, Texas and administered by IIE/CIES and GlobalAustin. The fabulous experience enlightened her about the US electoral systems, the development of Voting Rights Act, the U.S electoral laws and other related issues. It was also a great opportunity to meet many other Fulbright Scholars from all over the United States.
One of the program activities which she liked very much was a volunteer activity with Mobile Loaves and Fishes where she helped with some work.
On January 30th 2016, Diana joined the VT Outdoor Club for a day hike at Mcafee Knob with snow still covering the hiking trails and 8-mile round trip.
Although Blacksburg is a very nice tiny town, sometimes you need to escape to some bigger cities and Christmas and New Year Break was just the right time to do that. Diana went to Washington D.C. As most might know it has a large number of Monuments and Museums, and you can spend ages exploring them. She visited a number of these attractions, such as Lincoln Memorial, the National Museum of American History and of course, the White House.
